I see comments like these all the time. Or my other favorite one is “AI is so stupid, it makes so many mistakes it’s ridiculous”

Neither.
AI is a tool. Like anything that shifts our paradigms, we get really twitchy about it.
Remember how computers would create this utopia for everyone because we’d save so much time we’d just work on hobbies? Oh .. and we’d have a “paperless office”?
Yeah me too but I still have to fill out my TPS reports and make sure the right cover-sheet is on there. And I’m still working 40+ hours a week too.
Computers refined how we work. This is the same thing. You live long enough and you see this type of pattern repeat. Social media and everybody being chronically online just exacerbates the fear of new things.
